Whimsies
Whimsies are always a challenge to carve. A wrong cut or slip of the knife can ruin the entire piece. My whimsies are carved from one piece of wood, with inter-acting parts, that may or may not be connected, but will not come apart. (Unless, of couse, it gets broken.) Examples of whimsy tricks are ball in cage, slides, pivots, rotations and other techniques. Whimsies are very fragile and are not toys, but rather collector pieces to be seen and handled gently. This whimsey has 5 ball in cages. It is 16 3/4" long and the largest cage is 2" x 2" on sides. It is carved from one piece of wood and may be hung (pictured hanging).

This ball in cage can be dislayed either laying down or hanging. It is 8 1/2" long and 2" x 2"

Bird in cage
This whimsey is a bird in cage. The bird is 8" wide and cannot get out of the cage. The cage is 9 1/2" tall and with the chain extended, the total length of the carving is 19 1/2". This is a great pet. He eats very little, almost never sings and you will never have to clean the cage.
He is also a great conversation piece!

3 sliding cages with 5 ball in cages
This whimsey has 3 sliding cages, nested within each other. The top cage is 2" x 2", the middle cage is 1 1/4" x 1 1/4", and the bottom is 1/2" x 1/2". It is 15" long (left pic) when closed and 28 1/4" long (center pic) when extended. This is a one piece carving and very unusual. In addition to the sliding cages that nest within each other, the bottom (right pic) actually has 3 ball in cages in that section. - $299.00

This whimsey is two ball in cages chained together. Each cage is 2" x 2" x6" with 5 chain links linking them together. This whimsey is 17" end to end when laid out flat.
